As everyone knows, there are three VERY important rules when discussing the Gremlins films:

1) Don't illuminate the dark shadows of 80's capitalism, Amblin entertainment and small town Americana.
2) Don't water down the conversation with our irrational fears of kid-sized monsters.
3) Most importantly, don't feed the myth of Orientalism through some dated stereotypes that would make Edward Said's head spin.
